MY HINTS FOR USING A HEMOSTAT FOR STUFFING.
Hemostats were primarily used for clamping off veins etc. during surgery and also by fishermen for removing hooks from the mouth of a fish. Doll makers use them in a similar way for stuffing the dolls body using the hemostat to hold onto the stuffing material.
You are able to grasp and hold the pieces of stuffing to be able to place the stuffing exactly where you want it as apposed to only pushing it into the dolls body with a wooden stick.
You can twist very small pieces aground the tips of the hemostat and insert the small Q-tip like piece of stuffing directly into each finger thus creating a very natural doll hand avoiding the bloated hand look.
You can stuff the doll primarily with a stuffing tool, or a wooden stick and where you have a "cellulite" or bumpy looking area you would use the hemostat to place a small piece of stuffing between the fiberfill and the dolls skin (the fabric) to fill out the depressed area creating a very smooth look.
You really use both a stuffing tool, or a wooden stick and the hemostat together to stuff a doll with professional results.
I use mostly my gold plated hemostats for creating the tiniest of fingers and a larger hemostat with longer tips for stuffing the larger areas along with my Rynda Original Designs stuffing tools and sometimes a wooden chopstick.
